The role

The Vantage Government Relations Summer Intern is a full-time contract role from May 3 through to end of August. It is ideal for a student entering their final year of a program in political science, government relations or public policy or economics or a student seeking an internship to complete one of these programs. Students without the above academic background will be active in their community and/or have been involved in campaigns or political process at the federal or provincial level of government.

The Vantage Government Relations student / intern is a highly-organized team player with the ability to work effectively on several projects at one time. They are expected to take initiative, demonstrate sound judgement, produce excellent work and ask for help as needed.

This role will give you the opportunity to learn from some of Canada’s most established public affairs professionals, and to better understand Canada’s public policy process from a private sector vantage-point.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing research and other general support to client leads as needed;
  • Developing content for clients, under the direction of more senior consultants; products could include PPT presentations, briefing notes, whitepapers, etc.;
  • Providing project management support to client leads; this includes work such as organizing meetings; producing call summaries; creating project schedules; etc.;
  • Delivering information in a clear and concise manner, using different communications platforms; and
  • Preparing presentations or briefing notes summarizing key research findings.

This is a full-time role (40 hours/week). It is expected that the work will be done remotely; a laptop will be provided.

 

Qualifications

Candidates should possess the following competencies:

  • A curious problem-solver and self-starter with proven initiative;
  • Advanced knowledge of Canadian public policy and the political process;
  • Excellent communications skills;
  • Excellent writing and editing skills;
  • Ability to manage several projects to meet tight deadlines;
  • Flexibility and eagerness to learn new things in a fast-paced environment;
  • Proven experience working independently, with strong time management skills;
  • Superior knowledge of MSOffice (ideally 2016), especially PPT; and
  • Proactive, positive attitude and skills to work with a variety of stakeholders.

Ability to speak, read and write in French is preferred but not required.
