Primary Purpose
As Manager, Community Relations and Engagement for the Calgary region, you will work with USask’s University Relations (UR) leadership on community-based and/or community-connected initiatives and activities that ensure strong, positive, mutually beneficial relationships and community presence to enhance the university’s reputation, while building awareness of its purpose, presence, and impact in the region.
While the University of Saskatchewan’s traditional campus is in Saskatoon, the university connects with communities throughout the province, across Canada, and around the world. You will create and enhance those connections throughout the Calgary region while building understanding with our alumni, stakeholders, and partners.
As Manager of Community Relations and Engagement, you will work to build community pride in the University of Saskatchewan through development of an effective, contemporary and forward-thinking community relations program. The strategy will include outreach and engagement goals and objectives for the Calgary region, as well as appropriate, regionally-based international goals and objectives as aligned with the institutional strategies. Included in the role will be evaluative methods to ensure the effectiveness of community relations activities.
NATURE OF WORK
Reporting to the Executive Officer, Office of the Vice-President, University Relations, you will contribute to budgeting, strategic planning and the overall direction of community engagement in the Calgary region, which will strategically advance the reputation and awareness of the university. Your work will align with the institutional goals as outlined in the University Plan 2020: Goals of Courageous Curiosity, Boundless Collaboration, and Inspired Communities, all with the intent to ensure that we are The University the World Needs.
You will develop and lead projects to enhance and optimize opportunities that maximize USask’s reputation, enhance awareness and lead to mutually beneficial relationships in the Calgary region. Such activities may include:
Events that showcase the university’s presence in, and impact on, its communities;
Organizing and managing community think tanks or advisory groups that provide insight and keep the university appropriately connected;
Developing strategy and organizing outreach travel by a variety of university leadership positions, such as vice-presidents, college deans, vice provosts and/or associate vice-presidents, ensuring that USask is visible and connected within the community;
Envisioning, creating and implementing appropriate outreach activities by the Vice President, University Relations;
Capitalizing on the remarkable talent and expertise at the university and aligning and/or connecting that talent with community interests in Calgary.
As manager, you will participate in community-based events, where such events meet the strategic initiatives of the VP, UR. Further, at the request of the Office of the President and/or the Office of the Vice President, Research, you will participate in community events deemed important to the respective offices. As such, flexibility of hours is a requirement of the position.
