Reporting to the communications manager, the communications assistant provides support to the department and works collaboratively within a fast-paced, creative environment. The successful applicant needs to work well under pressure and must possess the ability to work on mutiple projects at a time. Additionally, the communications assistant would:
- Assist the communications manager to meet the communication needs of all City departments and to convey information to Wetaskiwin community members.
- Respond to communication requests from internal departments; develop print and digital infographics and advertisements; coordinate advertisements etc. with communications manager on an ongoing basis.
- Coordinate the design, content, and final copy approval of print media items such as the Pipestone Flyer wrap or one-off print media ads.
- Coordinate and assist with promotion of events and important information for the organization such as public hearings, community events, Council meetings, and other projects as required, using appropriate media channels (including website, social media, print).
- Provide proactive issues management through the identification of emerging issues via social media, email, etc. and communicate those to the communications manager and relevant department for input.
- Assist with writing and editing internal and external communication materials such as letters, utility bill inserts, press releases, reports (for Council and SLT), key messaging, RFD’s, social media/print advertisements, speaking notes, and any other communication materials as requested.
- Implement the City’s corporate visual identity/brand standards and monitors communication materials to ensure appropriate interpretation and consistency.
- Develop content for City of Wetaskiwin corporate social media accounts.
- Monitor engagement on City of Wetaskiwin corporate and focused social media accounts and plans and implements appropriate responses with feedback from relevant departments/managers.
- Manage day-to-day website updates and develop content for the web in accordance with website standards.
- Develop infographics, posters, and other graphics using available specialized software.
- Keep informed of new tools and techniques for public engagement, including digital tools and trends.
- Adhere to guidelines as set out in the Human Resource Administrative Procedures.
- Participate in the City Health and Safety program and policies as required.
- Some overtime may be required during busy periods and at the discretion of the manager.
- Perform all other duties as required.
