If you answered yes to many of these questions, keep reading, we think you may have found your dream job!  Reporting to the Director of Community Safety and Corporate Support, you are responsible for ensuring the City’s story is being told in a way that captures our audience’s hearts, promotes our services, and leaves our staff, elected officials and the broader community well informed.
 

Qualifications

What you bring:
  • You have an ability to quickly assess and confirm complex situations through effective listening, consultation, data analysis and analytical skills and turn this into clear and concise messaging
  • You have exceptional relationship building skills and an ability to quickly establish credibility, trust and presence with key stakeholders including Mayor and Council, government and community partners, the media, and staff across all levels of the organization
  • You possess political acumen and have an uncanny, almost sixth sense ability to anticipate potential landmines or issues that could negatively impact City reputation and recommending a positive path forward
  • You have a proven track record in media relations, issues management and leading communications during emergent or crisis situations
  • You are comfortable with all forms of communication channels including printed resources, advertising, marketing, web, digital and online tools, and social media platforms
  • You are a creative and strategic communicator and are experienced in developing and managing communications plans
  • You are an exceptional writer who is able to deliver clear, concise, reader focused materials
  • You are driven to continually improve the customer experience, keep the community informed and engaged and expect staff to do the same
  • You have experience managing teams and have a collaborative and inclusive leadership style yet can be decisive when required
  • You lead with integrity, “walk the talk” and expect the same of others
  • You have 10+ years in corporate communications and are on a trajectory towards more complex and challenging roles or have a combination of proven professional corporate communications excellence and experience
  • You have a degree in communications, public administration or business administration or related discipline.
