The City of Edmonton is taking big swings with LRT expansion to keep people moving as the city grows, and to help it grow strategically and sustainably. The Valley Line Southeast is currently under construction, and the Valley Line West and Metro Line Northwest are set to start as early as 2020. We are seeking up to two passionate communications professionals to join the dynamic team supporting these and other LRT projects from planning and development through the construction of functional, connected transportation networks. 

You will help advance, enhance and protect the City’s reputation as you support the communications objectives of the Integrated Infrastructure Services department. In this fast-paced work environment, and with a focus on our Cultural Commitments to be Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will: 
  • Assist in providing strategic communications advice and plans for LRT expansion and renewal projects throughout the planning, design and construction phases 
  • Assist Communications Advisors to develop and implement integrated communications/marketing plans including research, risk and opportunity analysis, audience identification, development of key messages, use of a range of tactics, budget and timeline planning and evaluation 
  • Research, draft and proofread web content, ad copy, news releases, backgrounders, public service announcements, media advisories, speeches, briefing notes, brochures, blog posts, feature articles, social media and other communications materials for both external and internal audiences 
  • Coordinate production of communications materials (e.g. print, posters, leaflets, brochures, guides, newsletters, etc.) and liaise with suppliers, contractors and other members of the Communications and Engagement Department to ensure that products meet objectives and specifications, on time and within budget 
  • Assist with the coordination of events including media availabilities, public engagement and opening events, ensuring materials are planned in accordance with political and funding recognition requirements 
  • Assist with responses to inquiries from citizens, community and media requiring technical details and in accordance with contract requirements and restrictions 
  • Support the work of colleagues within the LRT projects communications team as part of the Integrated Infrastructure Services Integrated Marketing Communications team


  • Graduation from a 2 year community college or technical institute program or university with coursework related to the public relations field 
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a designated corporate communications, public relations, public affairs, public information or related position 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of public relations or corporate communications principles and techniques 
  • A proven ability to gather technical information from clients to translate into communications products 
  • A proven ability to deliver quality communications products and advice on time 
  • Demonstrated general knowledge of advertising, media, social media, design coordination and print production 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Proven ability to establish effective working relationships with communications staff, clients at all levels and external groups 
  • Proven ability to effectively handle sensitive information and manage multiple high-stress projects in a fast-paced and often ambiguous circumstances 
  • Experience providing communications support to transportation infrastructure projects and P3 projects is an asset 
  • Applicants may be tested

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday-Friday. On occasion after hours, weekends and/or rotational standby work may be required 

Salary: $33.960 to $42.694 (Hourly); $59,829.030 to $75,216.150 (Annually)
