Are you a communications/marketing professional who is excited to work in a fast-paced, high energy environment? Are you interested in politics?

We have an excellent opportunity for you in our Cabinet Communications team. Reporting directly to the Communications Director, you would work on a wide variety of internal and external communications, public relations, and marketing initiatives.

This is a dynamic position that supports both the Cabinet and Caucus offices, provides communications tools and advice and works to achieve the Premier’s and Cabinet’s goals and objectives. You will focus on creating communications strategies, advertising, print publications and social media content for members of Cabinet and Caucus. You may also take on media relations, including acting as a cabinet spokesperson when required.

Candidates should have experience working or volunteering in a political office as well as strategic communications abilities. Strong writing skills and the ability to turn projects around quickly with accuracy are essential.

You would be expected to manage the Cabinet’s social media presence, so we are looking for someone who is experienced using Facebook, twitter and Hootsuite; as well skilled at crafting social media and online strategies. Experience using Wordpress and graphic design skills are an asset.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITY

  • Develop and implement strategic communications initiatives
  • Prepare and review advertisements
  • Prepare and review print publications
  • Write and edit speeches
  • Prepare and review opinion pieces
  • Analyze media coverage
  • Write and edit media releases
  • Provide political communications advice on a wide range of issues
  • Assist the Media Relations position maintain effective and efficient relations with media outlets
  • Act as a spokesperson for Cabinet/Caucus as required
  • Assist Cabinet/Caucus and support staff prepare written materials
  • Update website and create online content
  • Manage social media accounts, including Facebook, Twitter and Hootsuite
  • Create content for social media
  • Preform other duties as requested by the Communications Director or the Chief of Staff

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

The minimum qualifications for this position are an undergraduate degree specializing in communications, political science, journalism or a related field, and a minimum of five years related experience. Relevant experience includes the development of a wide range of communication tools (news releases, key messages, questions and answers, communication plans, social media management, speech writing, etc.). Graphic design and online writing skills are an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position will work regular hours of 8:30 to 5 pm, but may be required to work irregular hours to ensure the completion of projects and/or tasks or to attend meetings with the Premier, Ministers, and/or MLAs, as well as during spring and fall sittings of the Legislative Assembly. Travel (in and outside of the territory) may at times be required.
